Clock is Ticking on EC2 Classic Retirement

| | |

Born in 2006, EC2 Classic is the original workhorse that helped AWS become the cloud market leader. After an admirable career, EC2 Classic will be given a gold watch and officially put out to pasture. Here’s the announcement from AWS about EC2 Classic’s fate.

This October 30th, AWS will disable EC2 Classic in regions that have no active EC2 Classic resources. As well, AWS will stop selling Reserved Instances for EC2 Classic. By mid-August 2022 all migrations from EC2 Classic to AWS VPC must be complete.

In order to migrate EC2 Classic to VPC the resource must be recreated in full in VPC. ClassicLink allows for incremental migrations. AWS has created a detailed migration guide for those with EC2 Classic still running in their AWS accounts.
Or reach out to Foghorn if you are not clear on the path forward or have any questions. We are happy to help.
